"I GIVE GOOD PHONE" — LYDIA SAM RAWLINGS!

with one comment

I’m often asked why I invest so much time sharing information via the newsletter, the video tips, the tele-seminar’s, speaking engagements, etc. There are three specific reasons I hold dear to my heart. They are ideal and certainly one includes the desire to create revenue.

THINK ABOUT IT! It’s a business after all. Frankly, it’d be foolish and irresponsible of me to spend time providing insights on how to position yourself to create a successful profitable business and then lead one that does not operate successfully. Right?

Another ideal reason is because I want to empower people to reach their dream. As the saying goes, “Feed a man a fish, feed him for one day. Teach him how to fish and feed him for the rest of his life.”

I receive notes from folks time to time letting me know how the various services we provide have helped them in some small way. Such a note arrived over the weekend from Lydia Sam Rawlings . It’s posted below.

This note moved me. So much so that I was compelled to share it here.

My Big Fat Independent Movie rip

Lydia, Thank you for the very kind words. They are soooo appreciated. I’ll continue to do my best to teach you and others… how to fish!

Dear Mr. Acuna,

The Business of Show business is a much needed service, especially for those residing outside of Hollywood.

I have Multiple Sclerosis and I am on limited disability income so I can’t take advantage of your services though I sign up for your newsletter, free teleseminars and video tips. I always get something out of them. Thank you. I am not new to this town. I founded and ran (until recently) the film writing development group, ScriptWrights. Thanks to the courage I mustered from listening to your advice, I’ve started submitting to contests again ( a semi finalist and a few quarterfinalists in the past) and recently submitted two scripts to a producer. I am still writing 3 to 4 scripts a year or major rewrites and though I can’t network or take meetings, you made me realize I can network on the internet and take advantage of the fact I “give good phone”. You saved my creative life.
Thank you..

Lydia Sam Rawlings

LOOK DOWN TODAY

Each morning I awake at 6am and take Parker, my adopted jack russell chihuahua, on a hike for about an hour. I then head to the gym for a 30min run on the treadmill and swim for 30mins. This has been my ritual for the last 11 months.

My intention was to simply be healthy and more importantly spend some time just caring for myself. I firmly believe that if you don’t care for yourself first, you can not care for anyone else properly.

I find it to be meditative and I gain so much joy from watching Parker explore each morning. It is so rewarding and enlightening to see this little dog take the same hike each morning for 11 months and it’s as if he has never hiked it before. Everything is new and exciting. The gift of his consistent life in the now has had a profound effect in my own life. I can truly say that it was he who has recued me, not the other way around.

This month I decided to switch up my ritual. I thought I’d begin to use free weights to begin shaping my physical form and take a break from swimming. In essence, I want to sculpt my physique.

Needless to say I have been in pain. I mean pain. I say PAIN. But, two things keep me focused on my outcome: 1. A great saying, “Pain will make you bitter or better, it’s upto only you” and 2. the photograph of the body type I aspire to emulate.

The pain is enough to frankly cause me to simply slip back into what makes me comfortable and more importantly, doesn’t cause me pain. I hear the constant chatter in my head driven by my natural instinct of fight or flight. The ego trying to protect me from pain. The pain yelling out to me, “stop!”

But, I remind myself that I will overcome this uncomfortable pain. I am building slowly. And one brick at a time I will build the image I have crystalized in my mind.

There is overwhelming evidence in my life that my dreams and ideas manifest. I simply need to apply the same principles that I have in the past to my new desires.

- Be crystal clear as to what I desire – have VISION & PURPOSE

- Declare my vision in written form and then share with others

- Take small baby steps

- Be flexible/adaptable – modify what is not working

- Reward myself for the small and big improvements

Rewarding yourself is crucial. Sometimes we get so caught up looking up (at where we want to be or what we want to have)  that we never look down — and acknowledge how far we have gone or what we already have.

WHO'S THE MAN IN THE MIRROR

.!.

I’ve been absent from this blog for just over a month.  I’ve been struggling with areas of my life and haven’t found the words to express myself… until now.

There’s a saying I offer to aspiring writers that seek my advice. Here it is: If the desire to write is not immediately followed by the action of writing then the TRUE desire is not to write.

Last night it occurred to me that I could replace “write” with anything and take my own advice. Frankly, that truth/discovery surprised me.

As I looked at my life, specifically, the areas that have been a challenge, it afforded me the opportunity to face the disturbing truth: I was not taking the immediate actions necessary and required to manifest my desires.

That propmpted me to query whether or not the desires, in question, were that of the 37 year old standing before me in the mirror or some other version of myself (a younger version of myself).

I have come to the conclusion that I need to rexamine my desires, my dreams, my expectations…that I need clarity from the 37 year old that lives within this physical form.

It’s terrifying to accept full responibility for yourself and to acknowledge that you have been operating on auto-pilot. But, I am ready to face those fears and live life by design and to truly live as a deliberate creator.
